We understand that making the decision to say goodbye is difficult, and that sometimes people may need some help deciding when that time has come.
If your pet has a complex medical history we encourage you to discuss this management with your general practice Veterinarian, as they will have more information about your pet’s care and medications.
If you are seeking a second opinion, or wish to discuss the quality of life of your pet with with an objective and empathetic third party, Sunset Pets offer quality of life consultation in the comfort of your home, in-person or via phone.
During these consultations our team will complete a head to tail examination, assessing pain, mobility, hygiene, body condition and discuss things like family interactions, behaviour and appetite. This enables us to formulate an objective assessment of quality of life, to help you in making the best possible choice for your pet. Check our resources page for some basic information to support you.
Quality of Life Consultations
We are happy to refer you to Madonna from Bee yourself counselling, who provides grief counselling for pet owners. Pet owners experience “disenfranchised grief”, grief that is not recognised or validated by society. This can result in feeling misunderstood and alone during a heartbreaking time.
Many people say pets are like family. Your pet’s love can be the most real and consistent form of unconditional love you will ever experience. Because of this you also feel free to love them unconditionally. This reciprocal unconditional love results in an incredibly powerful bond. It makes sense you will grieve when this bond is broken. We all need support during grief.
Bee yourself counselling provides:
Grief counselling when your pet passes away
Counselling support if your pet is ill
Before and after euthanasia grief counselling
